Braised Steak and Vegetables

1kg blade steak

2 tbspns plain flour

Salt and pepper

2 tbspns dry English mustard

2 tbspns butter

2 bacon rashers

1 brown onion, sliced

4 Flavorite tomatoes

2 celery sticks

2 cups carrot

1/2 cup chopped parsley

1 tbspn spicy sauce

1/2 cup boiling water

  • Preheat oven to 180C. Trim and cube the steak. Mix together the flour, salt and pepper and mustard on a sheet of baking paper. Coat steak well.
  • Melt butter in a frying pan and cook the bacon for 2 minutes. Add the onion, reduce the heat and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Add the meat and brown well on all sides, then transfer it, along with leftover seasoned flour, into a dish with a lid.
  • Add the vegetables, sauce and water. Adjust seasoning. Cover and bake in the oven for two hours. Serve with mashed potatoes.
